The Christmas Express

Roy Kasten writes:

As I race towards the finish line of Yule-A-Palooza 2007, I thought I’d share a few lesser-known, country-flavored holiday tunes. Special shout-out to John Wendland (host of Memphis to Manchester on KDHX in Saint Louis) for turning me on to so much great music, seasonal and otherwise, over the years.

Bobbie Gentry “Scarlet Ribbons”
Bob Wills & the Texas Playboys (featuring Jack Lloyd) “Christmas on the Range”
Ferlin Husky “Lonely Christmas”
George Jones “Lonely Christmas Call”
Hank Thompson “I’m Gonna Wrap My Heart in Ribbons”
Johnnie Allan “Christmas Time in Louisiana”
Mike Ireland & Holler “Merry Christmas From a Bar”
Narvel Felts “It’s Not the Presents Under My Tree (It’s Your Presence Right Here Next to Me)”
Geyer Street Sheiks “Great Dream From Heaven”

And as David reminds me, Ireland’s tune is essentially a one-word rewrite of Michael Hall’s “Merry Christmas From Mars.”
